Do I absolutely have to cover my butt first when wearing leggings to the mountain… There was a specific length of fleece that looked even better on Mt. Acha.

Whenever I go hiking in leggings, my fleece jacket strangely starts to get long. I want to cover my hips, but today's hike isn't that grand, so I don't want to pull out my hiking pants. This awkwardness is even more pronounced in places like Mt. Achasan, which are great for a light outing.

This time, I wore black leggings with a deep cherry fleece jacket. Underneath, I wore a light gray performance t-shirt. I matched the shoes with trekking shoes that mixed black and gray. Since the color of the top was distinct, the person stood out first even in photos taken from a distance.

Fleece length suitable for women's hiking leggings

I also tried on a fleece that completely covered my hips, and the first thing that caught my eye was how it made my upper body look longer from the side. The one I chose this time had a hem that passed my pelvis and rested just above my buttocks. In the front, it comes down below the waistline of leggings, and in the back, it covers about half of my buttocks.

The difference was particularly noticeable from the back. The feeling of just the leggings looking bare was reduced, and since the fleece didn't extend down to the thighs, the leg lines remained intact. Even when viewed from behind while climbing stairs, the boundary between the top and bottom was visible just right, so the photo didn't feel as stifling as I expected.

Here, instead of a thick wool type, I chose a lightweight type with a short, dense surface. Since it doesn't puff up around the waist, it reduces the feeling that only the upper body looks bulky when paired with leggings.

Leggings hiking outfit transformed by a single Deep Cherry Fleece

Wearing black leggings actually makes choosing a top easier. This time, I chose deep cherry instead of beige or lavender. The color stands out clearly even between the brown trees of the autumn mountains and the remaining green.

This color combination looked quite good when I took photos with a friend at Mt. Acha. In a full-body shot that captured the entire hiking trail, the black bottoms set the bottom edge while the deep cherry shade remains close to the face. Since the light gray on the performance tee is only visible at the neckline, the colors didn't scatter too much. I also matched the small backpack in black. If the fleece had been a dark color as well, it would have felt too much like sportswear, but changing just the top made it look like I was wearing a regular autumn outer layer.

The fit of leggings revealed while climbing the stone steps of Achasan Mountain

On Mt. Acha, clothes show up more honestly on the stairs than in photos taken on flat ground. The moment you lift one knee high, if the waistband of your leggings slips down or the fabric behind the knee gets too tight, you end up constantly adjusting your clothes.

So, for these leggings, I designed them to be full-length reaching to the ankles with a wide waistband. I also chose a fabric with a matte, sturdy surface rather than a thin, shiny type because it adheres better to hiking boots. When photographed from behind, the gloss also minimizes the appearance of the hips or thighs standing out excessively.

The fleece hem was sufficient if it didn't roll up to the waist even after climbing stairs multiple times. Since there are no scenes where I constantly pull the top down with my hands, my facial expressions and movements are visible before the clothes when taking photos.

When taking off the fleece and coming down, wear a functional T-shirt

There are times while walking when you don't need the fleece. For those moments, I chose a light gray functional tee with a standard length that comes just below the waistline. It has a bit of room in the arms and torso, so it feels less clingy than typical hiking innerwear.

After descending, I put the fleece in my backpack and moved around in a performance t-shirt, black leggings, and trekking shoes. My hair was a bit messy from the sweat and the knees of the leggings were starting to feel tight, but this actually felt like the perfect time for a photo taken on the mountain. If I were to choose this outfit again, I think I would bring the Deep Cherry fleece. Instead of focusing solely on covering my buttocks with the leggings, I found myself paying more attention to where the upper body and legs were separated in the photos.
