I thought throwing on a leather jacket would be perfect for an evening date in October, but when we actually met, three out of the four of us were wearing black. One of us looked down at our clothes and said, “Wait a minute, are we wearing matching outfits?” and that’s when everyone burst out laughing.

The designs are clearly slightly different, but standing together, they look similar. However, the friend wearing the chocolate brown leather jacket stands out strangely among them. It’s not like they are the only one dressed flashily. If you want to avoid standing out from others at an autumn gathering, these small differences can be quite useful.

When it comes to leather jackets, it's easy to think of black first. Since it goes well with jeans and seems like a safe bet, my three friends ended up making a similar choice.

If chocolate brown is added in between, the atmosphere changes dramatically. It doesn't stand out as much as bright camel, yet the color difference is distinct next to black. In particular, materials that are slightly matte and naturally wrinkle as you wear them are less overwhelming than leather with a glossy surface.

The shoulders are another area worth checking. If the dropped shoulders are too wide or the shoulder line rises stiffly, the added volume of the leather can make the upper body look larger. If the ends of the shoulders do not extend too far and simply taper near the hips, a defined line remains even without the garment clinging to the body. This is the kind of difference that friends notice first.

Outside, your jacket does most of the work, but it's a different story when you enter a restaurant. Since you end up taking it off in a heated place, the clothes you wear underneath suddenly become the main focus.

If you match the inside of a brown jacket with brown or beige, it might make your face feel a bit stuffy depending on the person. In this case, if you tuck in a bright knit sweater like soft blue, the bright color will be visible first below your face when you open the jacket.

However, just because it is blue doesn't automatically mean your face will brighten up. If you try it on by the window and the clothes look like they are floating unnaturally, it is better not to insist on it. For those who look good in it, it creates a surprisingly pretty combination when paired with brown. Also, if the inner layer bunches up inside the jacket every time you move your arms, that is quite bothersome. Rather than a thick knit, a thin sweater with a little room in the shoulders and arms allows for easier movement inside leather.

Now that I'm wearing women's autumn denim, including light wash, the clothes are the only thing that catches my eye.

Since you’ve changed your jacket and inner color, things can suddenly get difficult if you start trying to choose special bottoms as well. If you stand in front of the mirror wearing light wash denim and a brown jacket, blue knit, and light-colored pants all cross your mind at once, you might think, “Uh... I look like I have a lot of clothes today.” In this case, simply going back to the dark wash denim you usually wear is all you need to do.

For the fit, a straight cut that falls loosely below the hips is easier to pair with a leather jacket than one that clings tightly from the thighs. Even if you stand up after sitting for a long time at a restaurant, there is less chance of the fabric pulling on your thighs, and the leg line continues seamlessly from beneath the short jacket.

Women's gathering outfits, color differences are more visible in group photos.

After eating, we went to a cafe, and finally, the four of us took a photo. I didn't think much of it earlier, but looking at the screen, seeing three black leather jackets stuck together is funnier than I expected.

The designs are all different. One is oversized, one has a zipper, and the other has a small collar. However, on a small mobile phone screen, those details aren't easily visible, and the dominant black color is what comes through first.

The chocolate brown next to it separates naturally without you having to go out of your way to stand out. Since the jacket ends around the hips and the dark blue denim continues downwards, your upper body doesn't look bulky even in full-body photos. There is no need to suddenly cover your stomach or hold the front of the jacket with both hands just to take a picture. It looks much more natural to just turn slightly toward your friend and get a shot while you smile.

The friend zooming in on the photo looks at their own clothes first and laughs. “Hey, the three of us really look like we’re wearing matching outfits.” Then they glance at the friend wearing the brown leather jacket. “But you managed to dodge it all by yourself.”
