Whenever I take out a gray hoodie, I almost automatically reach for jeans. They're comfortable and hard to go wrong with. But then when I look in the mirror, it seems too plain, so I change my shoes, put on a hat... Wait, maybe I should have just worn different pants in the first place? That thought struck me exactly while looking at Kim Sa-rang's styling.

I paired a gray hoodie with a black pleated mini skirt, black loafers, and white socks, and suddenly the hoodie doesn't look like sportswear. I don't have to pull out a knit sweater or jacket right away just because it's autumn, nor is it the usual combination of a hoodie and denim. I thought to myself, "Huh...? I didn't realize a single gray hoodie could make such a difference."

It's just a gray hoodie, but the vibe changed drastically since I didn't wear jeans.

Actually, gray hoodies are really familiar, aren't they? It's one of those clothes I reach for without much thought on weekends, but Kim Sa-rang paired it with a black pleated mini skirt. The top has a relaxed fall, but since the bottom is significantly shorter, the silhouette is completely different from the hoodies I usually wear.

Whenever I wear a hoodie, I tend to prioritize comfort so much that I often choose roomy pants. Both the hoodie and the pants are big... It really is comfortable, but sometimes when I look in the mirror, I think, "Ah, I was a bit too comfortable today" haha. On days when I have volume in the upper body like Kim Sa-rang, pairing short bottoms keeps the comfortable hoodie vibe intact without the whole outfit feeling heavy and sagging.

The black pleats also fit well. If it had been a simple straight-cut miniskirt, the vibe would have been different, but since the pleats are visible whenever she moves, the bottom doesn't end up looking plain under the gray hoodie. Her long, straight hair falls naturally without looking like it has been styled, so it doesn't unnecessarily complicate the contrast already created by the outfit.

Whenever I wore a miniskirt, I used to try to match my top to be feminine, but it turns out that wasn't really necessary. It might actually be easier to just keep a very plain top like a hoodie and change only the bottom. Come to think of it, the problem wasn't my gray hoodie; it was that I was attaching the exact same jeans every time... lol

I thought sneakers would come out, but it's black loafers and white socks?

My expectations were off once again when it came to the shoes. Given the gray hoodie and pleated mini skirt, I naturally assumed she would wear sneakers. However, Kim Sa-rang wore black loafers with white socks showing underneath. The comfortable vibe of the hoodie remained the same, but the look took a slightly different direction at the foot.

The white socks seem particularly important. If the black loafers had followed immediately below the black skirt, the bottom would have looked dark all at once, but the white in the middle clearly separates the legs from the shoes. The color difference with the gray hoodie isn't too significant either, so it reduces the feeling that the top and bottom don't clash.

I actually like that this combination isn't difficult to recreate at home. When I wear loafers, I usually try to hide my socks as much as possible or just reach for black first, but I didn't realize there was a way to wear white so openly like this. It seems like a minor detail, but when I actually try to wear it myself, this is the first thing I miss. I end up staring in the mirror for a long time, wondering, "The clothes are exactly the same, so why does it look different from the photo...?" haha.

Ultimately, Kim Sa-rang's styling made me see hoodies in a new light. Rather than focusing on layering because it is autumn, I found it more interesting to see what to pair under the gray hoodie. By drastically changing the length with a pleated mini skirt and pairing it with loafers and white socks instead of the expected sneakers, it looked like a completely different gray hoodie from what I knew.

Come to think of it, I've been wearing the same gray hoodie for years, but my outfit has been exactly the same...? I thought I was just tired of the hoodie, but wait, maybe the hoodie is the one being unfairly treated lol
