I need to go for walks, travel, and visit cafes... but seeing Son Ye-jin's autumn outfits has eased my worries about what to wear.
Now that it's October, I find myself hesitating for no reason every now and then when I try to wear white pants. In the summer, I just pulled them out without thinking, but now that I'm trying to wear them, I wonder if they're too bright...? It feels like I'm the only one still stuck in summer. But the funny thing is, it's not like the weather suddenly turned into the middle of winter, yet I can't decide what to wear just because of the color, haha. Looking at a photo of Son Ye-jin, I wondered if I had classified white pants as summer clothes too early.

In the first photo, she wore a brown outer layer with white pants, and in another, she wore a white shirt and white pants together. Then, she suddenly switched back to a brown top and bottom... Even though they were all autumn clothes, the way she used color was completely different. I was most curious about why she kept the white pants as they were without replacing them with darker ones, and only changed the top.
I was worried the white pants were too bright... but they look fine with a brown outer layer layered over them.
The first look consists of a dark brown outer layer, a white inner layer, and white pants. Since I'm even wearing a white cap, white actually takes up quite a large portion of the screen, but it doesn't look like just summer clothes. Because the brown provides a broad anchor to the upper body, the white pants actually seem to help alleviate the stuffiness.

Whenever autumn comes, I tend to look for black outerwear first. It’s because I don’t want to go wrong. A black jacket with black or dark blue jeans... I feel at ease once I’ve chosen that much, but when I look at photos a few days later, they look similar again. Ah... I’ve been dressed like the same person all week? Haha. That’s why a combination with a brown jacket and a wide white bottom caught my eye more.

With the white cap attached to the brighter side, the top and bottom don't clash. There is small red lettering on the cap, so a slightly different color is visible amidst the continuous brown and white. If I had matched the hat in brown as well, it would have been a much more classic autumn outfit, but I actually like that I didn't go out of my way to do that.

More than anything, I realized I had categorized white pants by season too early. It wasn't that white pants suddenly felt awkward just because it was October; the problem was what to wear over them... I actually took them out and put them back in just a few days ago. Wait a minute, then what on earth was that when I changed clothes three times that day?
A white shirt and even white pants...? But it doesn't look as stylish as I expected.
In the second look, the white shirt and white pants are seamlessly connected. Whenever I hear "all white," I get nervous right away. It’s pretty, but I worry it might look too dressed up, and above all, if I spill even a little bit while eating, it feels like my schedule for the day is over, haha. However, Son Ye-jin's look is a little different from the stiff all-white style I used to imagine.

A colored t-shirt is peeking out slightly from under the shirt, and a cap is also being worn. Since the shirt isn't neatly buttoned up on its own and the inner layer is visible, the white doesn't feel like a single solid block; I found these small details to feel more realistic. It's not like I have to match my bag and shoes entirely in white just because I'm going for an all-white look.
You can also see the hems of the pants rolled up. In the photo, the barefoot look makes the outfit seem less dynamic, but looking at this scene, the vibe is quite different from the first one, even though they are the same white pants. In the first instance, the pants served as bright bottoms beneath the brown outerwear, whereas here, the shirt and pants connect, making the overall look much lighter.

If it were me, I think I would have added something else here. I wondered if all white was too boring, so I started looking for a necklace and agonizing over the bag color... and in the process, I kept drifting further and further away from the outfit I originally had in mind. I don't know why I start out trying to dress well, but end up being the most exhausted one by the end, haha. Like Son Ye-jin, just letting the color of the inner t-shirt show a little and wearing a cap might be enough.
I thought wearing brown from head to toe would feel stuffy... but here are the gray socks.
The last one is the complete opposite of the previous two looks. This time, I wore a brown outer layer with pants in a similar shade. If I was worried about the white pants being too bright for the first look, here my first thought was the opposite—"Isn't there too much brown...?"—but then I looked down and saw gray socks and black sneakers.

In particular, the hems of the pants were rolled up slightly so that the gray socks weren't hidden. If the brown pants had run straight down to the shoes, the top and bottom would have felt much heavier; instead, gray suddenly appears at the ankle, and the black sneakers take over below it. Not adding brown after brown actually makes the look more comfortable.
I think this is also why the outfit doesn't end up looking overly conservative, even though I've worn the crossbody bag diagonally and added sunglasses. If it were me, from the moment I took out my brown top and bottom, I would have gone straight to brown with the bag and shoes... Wait, then wouldn't I be practically brown from head to toe? Haha. Just thinking about it makes me feel like I'm totally into autumn.
Looking at the three again, the first one, the white pants, still bothers me the most. I thought to myself that I should cut back on white and start looking for dark blue or black when October comes, but Son Ye-jin wore white pants under brown and even paired them with a white shirt.
So, it’s not that white pants were summer clothes... did I just assume it was summer whenever I saw white pants?
Ah, this feels a bit unfair. I shouldn't have added it again a few days ago lol.
