Jeans are so familiar that I actually tend to wear them without much thought. Just a T-shirt on top, and a jacket if it's chilly. That's pretty much where I stop, too. But looking at Suzy wearing Guess denim, I wonder if it's really the same pair. From a red knit sweater to black leather, a Western belt, and even a denim-on-denim look with brown leather, everything is different. It has become more fun to look at what is attached to the top than to see the jeans in a new light.

I was only looking for brown for autumn... but Suzy started with red on the Guess denim.

The first one just makes me stop because of the red. Whenever autumn comes, I tend to look for colors like beige, camel, and brown, but Suzy starts with a vivid red knit.

Red clothes can be surprisingly daunting when you actually try to wear them. When I see red, my first thought is "It's pretty," but I back away from the idea of actually wearing it. I feel like people might ask where I'm going today. However, since I'm wearing jeans, it turns out to be a much more manageable outfit than I thought.

The knitwear falls loosely rather than clinging tightly to the body, and the Guess wide-leg denim doesn't restrict the leg line either. The colors are bold, but the fit is toned down.

At this level, there is no need to save red for a special occasion. In fact, I think it would feel less awkward to wear this color on a day when nothing special is happening. After all, wearing a red sweater isn't going to magically bring you plans.

I was worried it might be too intense if I wore the leather jacket as well... but the wide-leg denim cuts it right in the middle.

For the second look, I paired a black leather jacket with a wide-brimmed hat. Each item has quite a presence on its own, but I wore wide-leg denim underneath.

I always hesitate when it comes to leather jackets. They look cool before I put them on, but there are days when the moment I stand in front of the mirror, I wonder if I’ve really gone overboard. However, since I have jeans underneath, that feeling is significantly reduced.

The bright top underneath also plays a part. The black jacket and hat are concentrated at the top, with a bright color appearing once in the middle and the denim continuing downwards.

I actually wanted to try covering the hat with my hand here. Without the hat, it’s a combination that is surprisingly easy to replicate. Black leather, a light-colored inner top, and wide-leg denim. The difficulty level suddenly drops significantly. It’s a good idea to try removing one element instead of copying the style in the photo exactly.

The knit top and jeans looked ordinary, so I wondered what was different... then I saw the Western belt around the waist.

The third one didn't look like much at first. After all, it's just a black knit sweater and jeans. But looking at it again, the Western belt is clearly visible at the waist. I think you realize these small differences after you've actually put them on, rather than while choosing the clothes. You know those days when the top and pants are definitely fine, but something just feels a bit plain when you look in the mirror? On those occasions, I used to reach for a necklace first, but it turns out changing the waist area was another solution.

It also seems important that the knit length does not completely cover the belt. Since the waistline of the wide-leg denim is fully exposed and the belt cinches the middle, the top and pants do not look like they are simply connected.

This looks like the easiest to replicate. If you have similar knitwear and denim, you just need to change the belt. However, I just remembered that all the belts in my drawer are plain black. It seems like something I'm missing always comes up at times like this.

I used to avoid denim-on-denim because it looks tacky... but Suzy just went all out with the top and bottom denim look.

I think denim-on-denim is harder if you wear it ambiguously. I’ve quite a few times put on denim on top and intended to wear jeans on the bottom, only to switch to different pants at the last minute. I was 괜히 worried that I might look too old-fashioned.

Suzy wore the denim jacket and jeans together without any hesitation. However, the top and bottom aren't exactly the same shade of blue, as if they were copied. The washes and brightness differ slightly, so they don't look like they are stuck together as one solid piece. I also like that she tucked a dark graphic top underneath. Since a different color comes in between the denim, it creates a distinct boundary between the top and bottom.

Come to think of it, maybe it's not that denim-on-denim is tacky, but that I've just been fixated on the denim look from 20 years ago. It really changes things when you switch to modern silhouettes.

It's different from the black leather... Switching to brown really brought the Western vibe to life.

Finally, it's another leather jacket, but this time in brown. It belongs to the same leather family as the black leather from before, but the vibe is quite different. A brown jacket is layered over a white Guess logo top and denim, with even the hat matched in a similar shade. At this point, the Western mood is definitely evident. In particular, since brown and denim are familiar colors, they surprisingly go well together, even when a statement item like a hat is included.

Of course, if you ask me if I would wear that hat exactly as it is in everyday life, I’d have to think about it for a moment. However, if you take just the jacket and denim out, it’s a different story. A white top, brown leather, and jeans. I think I could make good use of just those three items.

Out of the five, I was surprisingly most curious about the third one.

Instead of new jeans, I suggest trying on your usual denim and making sure the belt is clearly visible. If there isn't much difference, you can just cover it up with a knit sweater again. It’s an experiment like that that’s worth trying this weekend.
