I have a habit of reaching for a trench coat as soon as autumn arrives. You can't go wrong if you just throw on a beige one. But after seeing Shin Hye-sun's brown leather jacket, I'm wondering... do I really have to stick to that formula this year? I especially liked pairing it with a long, flowing brown skirt instead of jeans. I used to think of leather as a bold outfit, but I guess I was just picturing black leather with jeans too much.

Ah, I love the color of this one right away. If it had been a pitch-black leather jacket, I probably would have reached for my jeans first, but since it's dark brown, it feels different right from the start. Now that October has begun, there are gradually more days when the first thing you think about is outerwear as soon as you open the front door in the morning. The problem is, whenever I took out a leather jacket, I always ended up pairing it with jeans. It turns out the leather jackets in my closet have been meeting only denim for years.

Shin Hye-sun wore a long brown skirt layered over the jacket. The jacket has large pockets and a roomy fit, but since the long skirt hangs down below, it looks quite different from the leather jacket styling I'm used to. In particular, the hem doesn't fall straight down; instead, the texture is visible when she moves, so I found myself constantly looking down at the bottom.

Brown on top of brown—if it were me, I would have hesitated in front of the mirror. Am I too much of a brown person? However, since the jacket and skirt aren't exactly the same color, it doesn't feel as stifling as I thought it would.

She carried a beige bag again. I probably would have grabbed a black bag first, but looking at the photo, I wonder if that was just a habit. If I were going to work, I’d want to wear a thin knit sweater underneath and copy the look exactly. You bundle up because it’s cold in the morning, but then it gets hot when you go out for lunch... You know, office workers in October are negotiating their outfits with the weather every single day.

I just can't get rid of my trench coat... Even my Songmont shoulder bag went beige.

Come to think of it, I can't get rid of trench coats either. I was swayed by a leather jacket earlier, but looking over here, the trench looks pretty. That's why my outerwear collection grows every autumn.

Shin Hye-sun wore a long beige trench coat and continued the look with similar shades on the inside. She even carried a bright Songmont shoulder bag. Whenever I wear beige clothes, I used to avoid matching my bag in beige for no reason. I was afraid I would look like someone who tried too hard to coordinate their colors.

But looking at it now, I wonder if I was worrying for nothing. The bag isn't the angular type but rather rounded, so when I placed it next to the long trench coat, it actually catches the eye quite a bit.

If it were me, I’d want to try this combination on a fall trip. However, the bag absolutely has to be one that I can carry for a long time. You know how important this is if you’ve ever gone out with a pretty bag for photos only to have your expression stiffen by the afternoon because your shoulder hurt. I have experienced it. Very clearly.

Now even Etro has released patterned tops… I feel a bit guilty since I used to only look for plain knits in the fall.

The last one is completely different again. The Etro patterned top doesn't seem to have any intention of staying quiet. It features various colors on a brown background, and a navy knit is layered over it.

Patterned clothes look really pretty in the store. The problem starts after you bring them home. The next day, you open the closet and start having a private conversation about who on earth you should wear this with. As a result, you end up with clothes that go through two seasons without ever being worn properly.

Shin Hye-sun went with a dark brown skirt for the bottom. If I had bought a patterned top, I would have safely looked for black bottoms first, but here too, it's brown. With the small embellishments on the skirt, it doesn't fall apart as a complete basic item either.

If I had to choose just one of the three, I would ultimately pick the first one: the brown leather jacket. I’ve closed the shopping window I had open to buy a trench coat for now. The problem is that a search window for leather jackets has opened in its place. My bank account hasn't changed at all, but my tastes have just grown again.
