Since the beginning of October, I find myself agonizing over my choices in front of my closet every morning. It is too hot to wear a cardigan during the day, but it is too cold to go out in light clothing on my way home from work. Eventually, the colors I pull out end up being similar: gray, brown, and black. I can't believe this combination looked so calm and pretty last year, but when I take them out again this year, I sometimes wonder why I only bought safe options.

But even though Kim Go-eun doesn't use a lot of colors in her outfits this time, I keep getting curious about them. She pairs gray with red, layers stripes one more time, and usually just throws a Chanel bag over a beige jacket. Ah... I guess you don't necessarily have to wear only demure colors just because it's October.

A gray cardigan and a black long skirt… a single floral embroidery cut through the boredom.

I have a few gray cardigans in my closet, too. The problem is that when I wear them on Monday mornings, I almost automatically reach for black slacks. That is why I covet the Mardi Mercredi cardigan worn by Kim Go-eun even more.

The overall look is a calm gray with small floral embroidery on the chest, and the long black skirt hanging down below prevents the cardigan's cute vibe from being too prominent. I also like that the knit buttons are fastened all the way.

On days like these, when it's cool in the morning and a bit warm during the day, you find yourself reaching for a cardigan like this really often. It's that perfect time when it's a bit too early to wear a jacket, but just a shirt feels a bit too cold. But you already have a plain, basic cardigan at home... so you end up searching for a new knit sweater just because of a single flower. From your bank's perspective, it's not a flower, but a seed of trouble.

Thanks to the slightly textured black skirt, the gray knit doesn't look too stiff like work attire. I feel like I could just head straight to an autumn evening out with this combination. I could dress demurely in the cardigan at work, and then just swap out my earrings for a bit bigger when I get off, so I wouldn't even need to change clothes.

Navy knit over stripes… Kim Go-eun layered the stripes one more time.

This outfit has no intention of staying demure from the start. A navy halter knit is layered over a long-sleeved brown and beige striped top, and the skirt underneath also features stripes.

Usually, if I have a patterned top, I always look for solid-colored bottoms first. It’s not just once or twice that I got carried away and ended up silently changing back in front of the mirror. But since Kim Go-eun uses stripes of varying thickness and color, it really brings out the charm of layering multiple clothes.

The lace draping slightly below the skirt seems quite important. If it had just been stripes, it would have ended on the neat side, but a feminine detail suddenly pops out at the hem. It makes me realize that you don't necessarily need to look for just a shirt and a knit vest for autumn layering.

I think this would come to mind on the weekend when going to an exhibition or when you want to dress up a little more than usual... but I don't have the guts to copy that entire combination. I think I'd try just the striped top and navy knit first. Even just doing that would make the striped tee I've had shoved in my closet suddenly look like a brand new outfit.

Gray sweatshirt and red mini skirt… Kim Go-eun’s October color combination really takes off here.

Ah, what is with this red? A red miniskirt peeks out from under a gray sweatshirt, and that is exactly why I wanted to title this look. The sweatshirt itself is a very relaxed piece, but to pair it with a sleek red skirt underneath... it suddenly takes me off the beaten path from the ordinary autumn outfit I had in mind.

A long black piece is wrapped around the waist so that the red doesn't stand out too much, and a pearl necklace and embellished socks are added. At this point, you momentarily forget that you are wearing a comfortable gray sweatshirt on top.

I like red clothes too, but I always hesitate when it comes time to actually buy them. I know they're pretty... but will I wear this next week? That's when the card goes back into the wallet. However, using red for a skirt that stays far away from the face is quite appealing.

As October begins, the colors of my wardrobe—from jackets to knits—are gradually getting darker, but adding a color like this to the bottom would completely change the vibe. It would also help me avoid the disaster of showing up at a fall foliage viewing trip wearing the exact same brown knit as a friend.

Beige boucle jacket and gray hoodie… Kim Go-eun’s Chanel bag looks even better because she’s not dressed up.

This one is different from the flashy color combination of the previous one. A gray hoodie is tucked into a beige boucle jacket, and charcoal pants are worn underneath, with a black Chanel quilted bag tucked inside.

I liked that I didn't look for a blouse or dress right away just because it was a Chanel bag. The hood comes up at the back of the neck, and the jacket has a cozy texture rather than a stiff suit jacket, so the bag feels comfortable as well.

This combination is going to be really useful starting now. You know those days when it's chilly in the morning so you wear a hoodie, but feel like it looks too casual to go out on just that? If you throw on a textured jacket over it, it instantly becomes an outfit for going out, and if it gets warmer during the day, you can simply take off the jacket.

Especially for outings to the suburbs or autumn trips in October, it's hard to get by with just one outfit due to the temperature difference between morning and evening. I'm the kind of person who packs a pretty bag for a trip but ends up only wearing a comfortable crossbody bag... but if you mix a Chanel bag into a casual outfit like Kim Go-eun does, it would be a different story.

Still, if I were to try one of the four this October, it would be the gray sweatshirt and red skirt. I think adding a touch of red to a wardrobe that has been rotating only brown, beige, and black just for autumn would be the fastest way to change the vibe. Even if a red top feels a bit daunting, if it's a skirt... don't you think I can take the plunge and give it a try?
