It was October and I was only looking for trench coats... but seeing the atmospheric beauty Jeon Jong-seo in gray and khaki makes me change my mind.
It’s practically automatic for me as soon as October comes around. Before heading to work, I check the weather once and reach for a trench coat first. Either beige or navy. I’ve worn them like that for years, so when I gather my autumn photos, it looks like I just copied and pasted the same outfits year after year. But when I saw the gray khaki outerwear Jeon Jong-seo was wearing, I thought, "Huh?"

It made me think that you don't necessarily have to stick to colors you're familiar with for autumn outerwear. It is a Maison Margiela look heading to Paris, but rather than looking like a complicated outfit, it immediately catches the eye with clothes I’ve been wanting to wear lately. It’s chilly in the mornings, yet awkwardly warm at midday... choosing clothes is the most hassle at this time of year, isn't it? Jeon Jong-seo’s three outfits perfectly capture that feeling.
Maison Margiela gray khaki outerwear that can be styled with a waist belt
That color is quite unique. It’s not a typical beige, nor is it a dark khaki; it’s somewhere in between, so even though I paired it with a black bag and boots, it doesn’t feel heavy. When I buy long outerwear like this, I look at the belt first, rather than the front.
I like to tie the waist to look a bit neat when going to work and leave it loose on weekends, but if it comes out in just one style, I find myself reaching for it less often than I expected.

The outerwear worn by actress Jeon Jong-seo has a loose fit and a waist belt, making it easy to change the silhouette depending on your mood. The sleeves aren't too tight, so there's room to wear a thin knit sweater underneath. You can wear a light inner layer now, and then simply increase the thickness of the inner layers when it gets a bit colder.
Ah... I think this is the real advantage of transitional outerwear. You remember clothes that are pretty but only available to wear for two weeks more vividly when you look at your credit card bill next month than when you paid for them.

I also like carrying the black bag. Since the structured bag sits next to the flowing outerwear, the look doesn't feel boring even without adding a lot of accessories. With the boots also in black, the gray-khaki color really comes to life. If I were going to work, I think I would reach for my usual black pants to pair with this coat. I would switch to jeans on the weekend. My desire to buy another trench coat is starting to waver right now.
Transitional October Outfit with Large Temperature Fluctuations: Solved with Just a Thin Long Sleeve
You know those days when it's still a bit too early to take out a thick sweater. Days when you wear one because it's cold in the morning, but then walk to lunch and think, "Ah... why did I wear this?"

Jeon Jong-seo wore a light, form-fitting long-sleeved top paired with loose-fitting pants, which immediately reminds me of the weather these days. In particular, the sleeves extend down to the backs of her hands and the natural draping at the waist creates a vibe quite different from simply wearing a basic T-shirt. Since the top is slim and the pants are roomy, the two don't look stuffy when worn together.

When autumn starts, I get this strange urge to buy knitwear first, but in reality, what I need most often around this time is a thin long-sleeved shirt like this. On days when I stay indoors for a long time, I can wear it as is, and if I have an evening appointment, I just need to pack an outer layer. There is no need to completely overhaul your wardrobe overnight just because a new season has arrived.

On still warm October days, keep it light with a slim top and Capri pants
A white slim top paired with black Capri pants—it is a combination where length creates the vibe more than color. The top extends long down to just below the wrists, while the pants expose the calves and the shoes are light, so even though I'm wearing long sleeves, it doesn't look like stuffy autumn attire.

I suppose you could call it that awkwardness of the weather right now. It’s the time when you need long sleeves, but it’s too hot to wear a coat, yet you don’t want to go out wearing only short sleeves again. I fail most often when going to work around this time of year. I dress thickly, trusting only in the morning air, only to find myself living in the season a month ahead by the afternoon.

By creating a difference in length between the top and bottom like Jeon Jong-seo, even long sleeves feel quite light. Of course, as the weather gets colder, you would need a jacket or a light outer layer rather than wearing it as is.
Out of the three, I ultimately chose the first one: a gray khaki outerwear piece. I feel that just changing the color of my autumn wardrobe, which has been filled with repetitive beige trench coats, will significantly alter the atmosphere. Are you more inclined toward the familiar trench coat style, or this gray khaki?
