As I travel more frequently, I've noticed my standards for clothes changing a bit. Rather than just looking for pretty clothes, I now check if they are comfortable to sit in for a long time and if they look good in photos, and I even find myself glancing at shoes and bags.

That’s exactly what I thought while looking at Lee Da-hae’s recent fashion photos. The key points she emphasizes change depending on the location. On days off, she’s truly relaxed; at the airport, she’s practical; and at the beach, she completely changes the vibe with color. As someone in my 50s going on a trip, I looked into it piece by piece and realized there are actually quite a lot of things to pack.

Gray set-up, a comfortable yet stylish travel accommodation look

I didn't realize using gray all at once like this didn't feel stifling... I paired a gray short-sleeved knit top with loose gray pants, but the top and bottom don't feel baggy or loose. The top falls relatively close to the body, while the pants are roomy, creating a contrast in the silhouette. That's why, even when sitting comfortably on the sofa, it doesn't look like just pajamas.

Especially seeing her sitting with her legs comfortably raised like in the second photo, I thought, "Ah, this would be really comfortable for a trip." If I had to keep wearing jeans after a long flight and returning to my accommodation, I couldn't do it. Haha.

The long straight hair also plays a part. Since the outfit has almost no embellishments, the neatly falling hair itself creates the lines of the look. Adding just earrings and wrist accessories also makes it neat.

Change up the vibe at the airport with a fur vest and a chain bag.

The photos taken in the airport connecting corridor look completely different. Here, my eyes were drawn to the fur texture before the bag. Since it added volume to the upper body, the travel look didn't appear plain even from a distance.

She layered a fur vest over a brown top and paired it with very loose black pants and sneakers. With a hat and mask included, it is a great outfit for actually moving around the airport.

However, if it had ended there, it would have looked quite clunky. The vibe suddenly changes as the brown and black Chanel bag with a chain strap is brought in. This kind of detail is actually quite important. I realized that just because you dressed comfortably, you don't necessarily have to carry a comfortable bag. The Chanel branding on the bag really makes the focal point stand out.

Travel Street Look: Layering is More Fun Than Just One Jacket

At first, I thought the brown jacket was the focal point, but that wasn't the case. It is the layering of various colors and lengths inside the jacket that brings this outfit to life. A dark graphic top and a bright blue color are layered inside the brown jacket, paired with a gray mini skirt and knee socks on the bottom. And to top it all off, sneakers.

Honestly, if I were to wear this exactly as is on a trip, I’d want to switch from the miniskirt to shorts or a slightly longer skirt. However, I do want to bring over the way the colors are used. It would have been quite heavy if it were just brown and black, but the blue in the middle grabs the mood and makes you think, "Huh? What’s going on here?"

The entire photo, including the mural, has a street vibe, so the outfit and the location match well. This is when I understand the saying that travel photography ultimately involves coordinating the background as well.

A single pink tweed jacket is all you need for a photo by the sea.

For the beach photo, the pink jacket is undoubtedly the star. I paired a vivid pink jacket with a textured finish with black bottoms. Since the sea and sandy beach are mostly light blue and beige, the pink really stands out.

When I take travel photos, I find that if I match my outfit too much to the background, I end up getting lost in the picture later. That's why I like this approach. If the sea is blue, make sure to stand out with at least one top.

Also, the way she lightly holds her long straight hair with her hands, rather than forcing it into place, matches the seaside vibe well. If she had styled it perfectly in place, it might have actually felt a bit stifling. It would have looked a bit ridiculous if not a single strand of hair moved when the wind was blowing, wouldn't it? Haha.

5. The riverside stroll look is all black, which makes it look more comfortable.

The last photo is the opposite of the flashy travel look. I wore a dark graphic T-shirt, casually threw on a black jacket, and put on a cap. In this photo, I liked the pose where I just rested my arms on the railing. It feels less like saying, "Alright, here we go," and more like pausing briefly while walking. Travel photos like this are the ones I find myself reaching for more later.

While the top is generally dark, the graphic on the T-shirt breaks the monotony in the center. Also, with the bright daytime scenery and water in the background, the black clothes are clearly separated from the background.

It’s not difficult at all to pull this off as travel fashion for someone in their 50s. A black t-shirt, a light shirt-style outer layer, and a cap are all you need. I find this kind of outfit the most realistic, because you can achieve a similar look without buying new clothes.

Looking at Lee Da-hae's five travel outfits side by side, it is interesting that she doesn't stick to just one style. She keeps things light with a gray set-up at the accommodation, adds accents with fur and a bag at the airport, layers on the street, pink at the beach, and returns to comfortable black for a walk.

If it were me, I’d pack just two items. One gray matching set for long journeys, and a colorful jacket that will really brighten up my face for photos. My travel bag is already heavy, so if I try to fit in all my fashion desires... I’d end up having to climb on top of the suitcase to zip it up. Haha.
