Striped shirts are pretty, but you know how if you choose the wrong one, they look too much like work attire, and if they're too oversized, you end up looking like you borrowed your dad's shirt? However, when you take a closer look at this shirt and think, "Oh? The buttons are red?", it catches your eye once more.

I just added a tiny bit of red between the subtle stripes, and the shirt, which would have been ordinary, suddenly became cute.

This is a women's oversized shirt with a relaxed overall drape. The shoulder line drops naturally, and the fit is roomy, so it doesn't cling tightly to the body. You could say it's the kind of fit where you don't need to sit with your stomach tensed up after eating in it, haha. It is comfortable to wear, yet the collar makes it look definitely neater than a T-shirt.

It looks cleanest when worn with black pants, as shown in the photo. The gray fine stripes blend seamlessly with the black bottoms, leaving only the red buttons as a subtle accent. The colors aren't too bold, so you might not notice them at first, but once you spot them, it's a detail you'll keep looking at.

If you wear an oversized shirt pulled down all the way, your upper body can look long. In such cases, tucking just the front slightly into your pants, as shown in the photo, makes you look much lighter. It also naturally reveals your waistline, and the relaxed fall of the sides reduces the impression of being too stiffly dressed.

The sleeves are also great to utilize. Wearing them long gives a calm vibe, but rolling them up once or twice on a slightly warmer afternoon creates a much more comfortable transitional look. It’s strange, but with a shirt, there are days when just rolling up the sleeves once makes you suddenly feel like you’re dressed up, haha.

For the bag, adding a small black shoulder bag like in the photo is a safe choice. Since the shirt already features accents like stripes and red buttons, you don't need to add a lot of accessories. If you prefer denim, it looks natural paired with medium or dark wash pants, and black slacks would also go well with it on days when you want to dress a bit more formally.

Colors like gray, pink, and ivory are great choices for changing up the mood. If you prefer basic items, gray or ivory are easy to work with, and if your wardrobe is usually full of neutrals, trying pink to slightly change the atmosphere is also a good option.

It is a style you will reach for often, especially during the transitional seasons, as you can wear it on its own as a shirt in the spring or layer it under a knit or cardigan in the chilly autumn.

Ultimately, for everyday shirts, I found that I would keep reaching for longer if they stuck to the basics while having just one interesting detail, rather than being too flashy. With subtle stripes, a relaxed oversized fit, and even a red button that you have to look closely to spot, this women's striped shirt is the perfect middle ground if you find a white shirt a bit boring but a flashy blouse too overwhelming.
