Many of you probably reach for a cardigan as soon as autumn arrives. It gets chilly in the mornings and evenings, so you feel the need to throw something on, but wearing a coat just yet feels a bit premature. However, looking at Ko So-young's photo, I thought, "Ah, there's the shawl, right?" It is a truly basic outfit consisting of a black t-shirt and black pants, but the whole vibe changes just by draping a shawl over your shoulders.

People who love clothes get secretly excited when they see outfits like this. It’s not about wearing a bunch of new clothes, but rather a combination that makes your usual basics look completely different. Actually, all-black is comfortable. If you’re in a hurry, wearing black on black means you at least won’t go wrong, haha. The problem is that sometimes it looks a bit too boring.

Ms. Ko So-young draped a large beige shawl over her shoulders. The design features black lines, so it connects naturally with the black outfit worn underneath. As the bright beige comes close to her face, the inherent heaviness of the all-black look is softened considerably.

The long fringe falling at the end of the shawl is especially pretty.

It doesn't look plain even when standing still, and because it sways naturally with every movement, it adds a focal point to your outfit without needing to add many accessories. While you have to put your arms in to wear a cardigan properly, you can just throw a shawl on. I've found that once people fall in love with this style, they find themselves reaching for it every autumn.

Of course, wearing a shawl incorrectly can cause problems. You know how sometimes you drape it stylishly and step out, only to find one side slipping down and the other riding up to your neck after walking a bit, forcing you to spend the whole day just adjusting your clothes? Haha. So, with a loose shawl like this, rather than trying to wear it perfectly straight, it looks much more fashionable to let it fall naturally along the shoulder line, just like Ko So-young.

It is also worth noting that the bottom half is unified in black. Since the shawl already features contrasting colors and fringe, there was no attempt to reveal more details from below. Instead, the overall silhouette is neatly refined by connecting the look with long black boots. It is a great combination to refer to as you transition from autumn to early winter.

The bag is also matched in black. Matching it with a Fendi product makes it look even more feminine and stylish. I really want that bag. Except for the beige shawl, the clothes, bag, and boots are mostly kept within black, which actually makes the shawl stand out even more distinctly. It looks much more comfortable because the overall color scheme was coordinated rather than trying to show off multiple branded items.

You know how people often say that autumn clothes can be a bit tricky once you reach your 40s or 50s. If you dress too casually, it feels too light, but if you wear a jacket every time, it feels like you're going to work. Adding a women's shawl like this to the mix works quite well. It goes well with jeans, and you can also drape it over slacks or a dress.

Ultimately, the key to this outfit isn't difficult. Just keep your basic black items as they are and add a beige shawl. If you have a black t-shirt and black pants in your closet but feel like they look too ordinary today, it might be worth trying a shawl instead of a cardigan. After all, with autumn clothes, sometimes it looks prettier to simply drape them well rather than wearing too many of them.
