The saying that people look better in person than on screen... The real celebrities revealed at the news scene
IVE's Jang Won-young has been spending a busy time lately, expanding her scope of activities beyond just the stage to include exhibitions and pictorials. Recently, she has been releasing previously unseen photos and her first solo photobook through the media art exhibition 'An-Young,' which she co-hosted with Ahn Yu-jin.
However, rather than the perfectly styled photos that looked like a photoshoot, there was something else that actually caught my eye. As I looked at the photos taken in ordinary casual clothes, I realized that the saying "you look better in person than on screen," which has followed them for a long time, wasn't said for nothing.

A Tommy Jeans crop top and a baseball cap draw attention upwards.
It is a look featuring a Tommy Jeans logo crop top worn under a cream-toned shirt jacket, and the first thing that caught my eye was the pose of raising the arms above the head to adjust the baseball cap. This pose didn't just capture a natural moment; it actually played a role in shaping the silhouette. Raising both arms creates the effect of making the upper body line appear naturally elongated vertically.

In the shot where she is sitting on the sofa, she paired the same crop top with wide-leg denim; the posture of sitting with her legs spread wide perfectly showcased the wide fit of the denim. Items with large logos, like the crop top, can easily look excessive, but by balancing a tight top with a relaxed bottom, the logo didn't stand out and served to anchor the casual vibe.

Off-shoulder sweatshirt, turned the head in the direction that exposed one shoulder.
In the two scenes where she is wearing a gray off-shoulder sweatshirt, she styled her hair by sweeping it to the side opposite the exposed shoulder and letting it hang down. In the mirror selfie, she wore sunglasses and pinned one side of her bangs back; this way, the exposed shoulder line is not obscured and draws attention directly.

In the scene where she is looking at the menu at the restaurant, she wore her sunglasses pulled up over her head; this also had the effect of naturally parting her bangs, slightly revealing her forehead line. It was a scene that demonstrated how the direction in which you sweep your hair when wearing an off-shoulder top can either highlight or conceal your exposed shoulders.

White leather coat, the crouching posture enhances the material's sheen.
The most impressive one was the photo where I was wearing a white leather coat, sitting on the floor and hugging my knees. Usually, it is common to take a full shot while standing, but when you curl up like this, the sheen and volume of the coat material are revealed in a three-dimensional way. The structure of the garment is more visible than when standing.
The length reached above the knees, even up to the black leather boots, and the color contrast between the white coat and the black boots was even more distinct when seated. White leather coats like this tend to appear in similar silhouettes every season at places like Zara or H&M.
In the end, the reason it was better than the screen was the posture.
Looking at the three outfits again, I realized that the saying "you look better in person" wasn't just empty words. Raising your arms to lengthen your upper body line, pushing your head away from your exposed shoulder, and crouching instead of standing to bring out the three-dimensional effect of the clothes—I think even ordinary photos can look completely different if you try following just a few of these poses, even without fancy lighting.
