Sometimes, backstage photos are more interesting than stage photos. While looking at a shot of her sitting with a handheld fan on her lap and holding a microphone, I became curious about her style, so I selected four recent photos. This is Song Hayoung from Fromis_9.

If you place four pieces side by side, this person is the type who dictates the mood with just a single top. Whether it is a denim bustier, a fur hoodie, or a jersey t-shirt, the top sets the character, while the bottoms quietly support it in black or white. True to her background as a hip-hop dancer, she has the knack of leaving one shoulder exposed or letting the sleeves roll down to the back of her hands to accentuate her body lines even when wearing oversized fits. She also transforms the same outfit into different moods by alternating between tying her long, wavy hair in a ponytail and letting it down. Another characteristic of hers is that she keeps the look complete with just a single hoop earring or necklace, without any flashy accessories.

Song Ha-young was born on September 29, 1997, making her 28 years old this year. She grew up in Gwangju and learned hip-hop dance and guitar at the Department of Practical Dance at Seoul Hallym Entertainment Arts High School. The story mentioned in the title is a pre-debut anecdote she shared with her fans. She said that during her second year of high school, she trained for about eight months in a debut group at an agency introduced by an acquaintance, but the team fell through. She returned to her life as a dancer, thinking that dancing was her calling, but it wasn't until she turned twenty-one that she started going to auditions with the mindset of giving it a try, whether it worked out or not.

Her first challenge was Idol School in 2017, and she debuted with Fromis_9 on January 24 of the following year, so it is fair to say she debuted as soon as she made the decision. Afterwards, she sang IU's "To My Name" on The King of Mask Singer and was eliminated by a margin of three votes, traveled to Vienna, Austria as the third daughter on My Little Television, and released the duet "I Can't Sleep" with DinDin last year. This year, she served as a special DJ on Wendy's Young Street and a one-day weathercaster for JTBC's Morning News, and also contributed to the lyrics and composition of "Screen Time," a track on her second full-length album, Glow ME.

① Backstage gray denim bustier and black lace shorts

The first shot was taken next to an equipment box at the back of the venue. I am wearing a gray denim bustier top with prominent stitching, black off-shoulder sleeves that slightly cover the shoulders, and black lace frill shorts. Even though it is a waiting area for a summer event with a microphone in hand, a hand fan on the knee, and a box of water bottles behind me, the scene looks polished because I used only two colors: gray and black. True to someone who lived as a dancer before stepping onto the stage at the age of twenty-one, my attitude is natural, as I do not seem conscious of the camera even while waiting. If you choose a denim bustier without internal wires, the waistline won't fold even when sitting like this.

② Burgundy fur zip-up hoodie and high ponytail

The second shot was taken leaning against a white wall, featuring a burgundy fur zip-up hoodie with a pink lining and a white number 98 patch on the chest. The sleeves were pulled down to the backs of the hands to accentuate the oversized fit, and the hair was tied up high to leave the face out of view. The artist once mentioned that they don't have much interest in fashion and prefer comfortable oversized styles, and this shot perfectly captures that sentiment. However, it doesn't look tacky because burgundy and pink belong to the same red family, so the colors don't clash. Since many domestic streetwear brands sell fur hoodies like this for around 100,000 won, choosing one with a lining one shade lighter than the outer fabric will help you achieve the look in the photo.

③ Night field black off-shoulder jersey and hoop earrings

The third photo was taken on a track at a sports field at night. She is wearing a black jersey t-shirt with "CALLED 18" lettering draped over one shoulder, revealing a tank top underneath; judging by the stage equipment visible in the background, it appears to have been taken immediately after a university festival or an outdoor performance. The atmosphere of that summer festival season, when she won four awards on music shows with "Supersonic," is captured in this shot. Since jersey material doesn't cling to the body, it doesn't look revealing even if you wear it with your shoulder exposed, so the trick is to buy a men's size Large and wear it off-shoulder.

④ White denim bustier with a gradient background and long waves

The last photo was taken against a background that blends from yellow to blue. I paired a white denim bustier with buttons running all the way down the front with white bottoms, letting my long waves down to cover my shoulders. It belongs to the same item family as the gray denim in the first shot, but simply changing the color creates a completely different look. Since this combination matches the bright mood of the Glow ME comeback season, choosing white denim with silver hems or buttons creates a clean, polished look like this.

Ultimately, what runs through all four pieces is the power of a single top. Since the approach involves selecting tops with distinct textures—like a denim bustier, fur hoodie, and jersey t-shirt—and stripping away the rest, it seems the habit of dressing comfortably during his days as a dancer has remained intact even after becoming an idol. It is actually quite convincing that the outfit of someone who has come full circle to the stage is so effortless.

Between the two denim bustiers, gray and white, which one do you reach for? In the next part, I will continue with the outfits this person wore on their way to work at Young Street.
